Meet two of the keynote speakers
Tatiana Bilbao formed her own practice in 2004 in Mexico City. She recently lead and designed the master plan for Ruta del Peregrino, a 117-kilometre pilgrimage route, along which various structures have been strategically placed to engage around two million people traversing the route annually.
The project is a collaboration between artists and architects such as Ai Wei Wei, Elemental and Dellekamp Arquitectos. Bilbao was named in Architectural Record’s Design Vanguard in 2007 and her work has been published in A+U, Domus, and The New York Times, among others.
This dynamic woman studied architecture and urbanism at the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México, and co-founded MXDF Urban Research Centre with Derek Dellekamp, Arturo Ortiz, and Michel Rojkind.
David Adjaye is founder and principal architect of Adjaye Associates. Established in June 2000, the firm has received worldwide attention, with work ranging from private houses; cafes and bars; exhibitions; and temporary pavilions, to major arts centres; civic buildings; and master plans in Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. Adjaye’s practice is currently engaged on a prestigious commission to design the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American Culture and History on a prominent site at the National Mall in Washington DC. Adjaye currently holds a ‘visiting’ professor post at Princeton University School of Architecture. He is a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Chartered Member, an American Institute of Architects (AIA) Honorary Fellow, a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council, and a Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Adjaye was awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) medal for services to architecture in 2007 and received the Design Miami/ Year of the Artist title in 2011.
